Carrying too much fat around your middle
is associated with an increase risk of developing heart disease,
diabetes and high cholesterol, which in turn increase the risk
of heart attacks and strokes.
A waist circumference greater than 80cm (32”)
for woman and 94cm (37”) for men, increases the risk of
all the above and puts you in a higher risk category.
|
The danger area is for women
with a waist measurement of more than 88cm (35”) and men
with a waist measurement of more than 102cm (40”) |

To measure accurately: place a tape
around the narrowest part of your waist, breathe out and
measure. |
Simply draw a horizontal line to
correspond with your height and a vertical line to correspond
with your waist measurement. The point where these two
lines meet shows your waist circumference. This is a good
indicator of your overall health. |
